Could your mindset be holding you back? If so, it’s vital that you work to change it. Your thoughts are a powerful thing, and having a negative way of thinking can potentially ruin your life!
For so long, I went through life as a toxic person. It wasn’t until a traumatizing event happened to me, that I realized I needed to change how I reacted to the world! Today, I want to share with you some techniques that I used to develop a positive mindset!
1. Set a Morning Routine
Creating a morning routine is a great way to get yourself to want to wake up in the morning. Use this time to do activities that you enjoy and that will better yourself in the process! For example, I would stretch, meditate, read, and write in my journal.
Overtime, I found that this process made me a lot happier than sleeping in. I began to feel more peaceful, productive, and motivated.
2. Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations are used to overcome negative thoughts. Simply repeating to yourself statements such as, “I believe in myself” or, “I’m capable of making my greatest dreams come true” can rewire your brain to think more positively… especially about yourself!
For me, I struggled with this method at first. It was hard to say any nice things about myself, because I had never practiced self-love before. The way I got better at it was by practicing this EVERYDAY.
No matter where you are in your journey, it’s important to be grateful for what you already have. Instead of wishing for what you don’t have, be grateful for what you do have.
Everyday, try to write about a specific event that happens to you that you’re grateful for. You can start off with something like, “I’m grateful for my family”. However, as you continue, get more detailed about it! This is a great way to get your mind to see the positive side of life!
4. Healthier Choices
This one can be hard, but part of having a better mindset, is living a healthier lifestyle. It’s important to take care of your body. Exercise, drink lots of water, and eat healthier food! Cutting down on alcohol or smoking should be considered as well.
5. Read a Self-Help Book
If you love to read, then find yourself a self-help book! I actually have one book to thank for helping me change my mindset. You can read more about it here!
6. Reward Yourself
Finally, make sure you reward yourself! Even if it’s just a small accomplishment. Don’t be afraid to celebrate your life. Your hard work deserves to be recognized, even if it’s you who is recognizing it.
You may be thinking, “I’ve tried all of these, but they don’t work for me”. Saying that these don’t work for you, is the reason they’re not working for you. Your thoughts become your reality. Believe in yourself!
I also realize that mental illness is real, and a positive mindset can be harder on some people. Mental illnesses don’t ever go completely away, but there are ways of coping.
Don’t give up too quickly. Results never happen overnight. These are all things that I had to work on over and over. They weren’t always easy, but I got through them!
